Aerobee 150 RTV-N-8
RockSim File |
A scaled model
of the famous AeroJet General sounding rocket. Derived from
the earlier WAC Corporal, the Aerobee 150 was a larger and
more-successful two-stage rocket designed to carry a 150 lb
payload up to 75 miles altitude using a solid booster and a
liquid bi-propellant sustainer. This early-series variant
was 317.3" long with its booster; the sustainer, modeled
here, was 241.8" long.
Skill Level 1.
Flights over 1200' on a C6. |
Craig McGraw |
Aerobee 150 RV-N-13b
RockSim File |
A stretched-body
Standard, the RV-N-13b could carry the same 150 lb payload
20 miles higher than the Standard, and had higher velocity.
This variant was 371.6" long with its booster; the
sustainer, modeled here, was 298.6" long.
Skill Level 1.
Flights over 1200' on a C6. |

Aerobee 150 Standard
RockSim File |
Originally known
as the Aerobee-Hi, the Aerobee 150 Standard was the most
common variant flown in the series. This version was 356.6"
long with its booster, and could carry the same payload to
150 miles altitude. The sustainer, modeled here, was 283.6"
long.

A modernization
of the early Centuri design, the BARCLONE version simplifies
construction by using a single main body tube instead of a
two-piece-with-coupler. The original BARCLONE version used
Estes BT-20, but this has been updated to use all SEMROC
(Centuri-based) components. Skill Level 1. |

Triton
II
RockSim File |
The original
Triton design suffered from poor performance in the
full-stack configuration due to the lack of
high-initial-impulse 18mm booster motors. This revised plan
substitutes a 24mm first booster to compensate for this lack
of motors, and the performance comes back to what was
originally expected.
All full-stack flights using "C11" and "D12" first boosters
require a 3/16" x 48" launch rod for safety. Flights using
"E9" first boosters require a 60" tower.
