CONSTRUCTION ------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Assemble a long 24mm mount, as shown in the special "Long 24mm Motor Mount Construction" instructions. 2. Mark the BT-55J payload adapter tube 1" from one end, and draw a line completely around the tube at this point. Slide a CR-5560 ring over the short end of the tube until it is about 1/4" of this line. Apply a bead of glue around the tube just in front of the line and slide the ring into place, just touching the line. Apply another bead of glue around the top edge of the tube, and slide the other CR-5560 onto the tube at this point (see profile view for details). Apply a fillet around the base of each ring, both sides, and allow to dry. 3. Mark the NB-55 bulkhead 5/8" from one end, and draw a line around the bulkhead at this point. Apply a layer of glue around the inside of the bottom of the payload adapter tube (the end opposite the two rings), and insert the short side of the bulkhead into the glue, up to and just past the line. Allow to dry. Thread the screw eye into the base of the bulkhead, then carefully remove the eye and force glue into the hole. Reinsert the screw eye, and allow to dry. 4. Apply a layer of glue inside one end of the BT-60R large payload body for a depth of 1", then slide the ringed end of the payload adapter tube into the glue, until the ring is flush with the bottom of the payload tube. Allow to dry. 5. Glue together three pairs of BT-55S fin tubes, using weights to keep them aligned, both ends flush with each other. When dry, attach one pair of these to the bottom end of the BT-55V main body tube, with the bottom edges of the fin tubes even with the bottom edge of the body. Use a bead of glue everywhere the tubes contact each other. Using this first pair as a guide, repeat the steps with the other two pairs. Allow to dry between each pair. 6. Insert the long motor mount into the main body, and push forward until the middle ring is about to enter the tube. Apply a heavy bead of glue inside the bottom end of the main body tube, at a depth of 2" from the end. Push the motor mount forward until the tip of the engine hook is level with the bottom edge of the tubes. Using a glue applicator, apply a bead of glue to the outer ring-body contact of the rearmost ring, and a similar bead of glue inside the body tube where the forward ring contacts the body tube. Allow to dry. 7. Assemble the parachute, and connect the shroud lines to a swivel. Attach the shock chord to the inside of the main body tube, at a depth of at least 1.5" from the edge, using a folded-paper mount. Attach the free end of the shock chord to a swivel, then attach both swivels to the screw eye at the base of the payload adapter bulkhead. Allow to dry. 8. Fill, prime, and sand the surfaces until the desired finish is reached, then spray a color coat of your choice. Clear coat the model, and apply any decals you wish, then clear coat the model again. Allow to dry between steps. 9. GO FLY! Copyright © 2003 by Craig McGraw. All Rights Reserved.
