GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Assemble a standard 18mm motor mount. Set aside to dry. 2. Cut out the fins using the patterns on the plan sheet. Flat-sand the fin components on their faces, and square up the root edges. 3. POD ASSEMBLY: 3A. Mark a spent 13mm engine casing 1" from the nozzle end. 3B. Apply a layer of glue completely around the inside one of the two pod tubes about 7/8" from one end, and insert one of the CR-45 rings. Push the ring forward with the spent casing until the 1" mark on the casing just disappears. Remove the casing. 3C. Insert a second ring into the end of the pod tube. Keep the ring flush with the tube end, and glue in place. 3D. Glue one BNC-5E nose cone into the opposite end. 3E. Repeat this step for the other pod. Set aside to dry. 4. Mark the main body tube for two fins, 180 degrees apart. Draw these fin lines forward from the bottom of the tube for a distance of 5". Draw a third line halfway (90 degrees) between these lines, and extend this line for a distance of 6" from the bottom of the tube. Mark this line 5" from the bottom of the tube for locating the launch lug. 5. Glue the motor mount into the bottom of the main body tube. The bottom of the motor tube should be even with the main body tube. Let dry. 6. Attach the Inner Fins to the main body tube on the opposing lines, using Stine's double-glue method. Use clamps and jigs to maintain alignment. Allow to dry completely. 7. Mark the pods for four fins, 90 degrees apart. Draw lines the full length of the tube. 8. Attach the pods to the inner fins using the double-glue method, keeping the bottom of the pod tube even with the trailing edge of the inner fins. Let dry. 9. Attach the remaining outer fins to the pods in the same manner as step 6, and allow to dry. 10. Attach the shock chord to the inside-top of the main body tube with a folded-paper mount. The mount should be attached at least 1" down from the end of the tube. Allow to dry. 11. Assemble the parachute, and attach the shroud lines to a swivel. 12. Carefully thread the screw eye into the base of the BNC-50X, remove, and force glue into the hole. Reinsert the screw eye into the hole, and allow to dry. 13. Attach the free end of the shock chord to a swivel, then attach both swivels to the screw eye. 14. Attach the launch lug to the 6" line on the main body tube, with the bottom of the lug on the forward side of the 5" mark. Allow to dry. 15. Apply a fillet of glue around the joints of all the fins to the main body tube and the pods, smoothing the fillet with a wet finger. Allow these to dry in a horizontal attitude to prevent glue drips. 15. Prime the model with an oil-based (mineral spirit-based) primer if you have used aliphatic glues for the fins and the launch lug. Use multiple coats, allowing to dry between coats, before lightly sanding. Continue priming and sanding until the surface blemishes disappear. 16. Paint the model in a color scheme of your choice, using acrylics or enamels. Allow the paint to dry COMPLETELY, especially in the case of enamels. This means allowing all of the thinners to completely evaporate, or until the solvent smell has gone. 17. Apply an acrylic spray clear coat for decal preparation, and a second acrylic clear coat after the decals have dried. 18. GO FLY!
